Council launches Kerry Cultural Archive Award for 2018

Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Cllr Norma Foley launching the 2018 Cultural Archive Award at Tralee Library with County Archivist, Michael Lynch.

The 2018 Kerry County Council Cultural Archive Awards application process was launched by Cllr Norma Foley, Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council at the Local History and Archive Section of Kerry Library this week.

Applications Invited

Applications are invited for the development or preserving an archive with the intended cultural impact of preserving such material for future generations. Creative Ireland is a culture-based programme designed to promote individual, community and national well-being.

Within this programme, Kerry County Council invites applications to the fund as follows:

€1,000 Grant

A one-off grant of €1,000 for a single project in each Municipal District will be made. Members of the Kerry County Council Creative Ireland Cultural Team will evaluate the applications. The fund is limited and eligible applications will be evaluated on a competitive basis.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for community or cultural groups to preserve the history of their cultural organisation including minutes, records and details of activities, for future generations,” said Michael Lynch, Archivist at Kerry Library.

Kerry Based Projects

To be eligible for funding, the project must be Kerry-based, encourage participation from the community, document a cultural practice or archival body of records in a local area/community and be a feasible project with a cultural dimension. All projects selected must be completed by 30 April 2019. Successful applicants from each of the four Municipal Districts will be notified following an evaluation process.
