A dawn chorus with a difference rang out around Castleisland this morning as householders went to their taps for water and found them bone dry.

However, an Irish Water team has been working on a serious mains pipe burst in the Ballymacadam area on the Brosna Road, Castleisland since first light this morning.

Cllr. Fionnán Fitzgerald and Cllr. Charlie Farrelly were on the ball in alerting their constituents as to the story behind the out of season drought.

The mains burst means that the supply to all of Castleisland and its hinterland has been cut off until at least the afternoon – anything sooner would be a bonus at this stage but the crew at Ballymacadam reports steady progress. .
