St. Patrick’s Transition Year Students Learn Life Saving Skills

St. Patrick’s Secondary School in conjunction with the Irish Heart Foundation have embarked on an ambitious training drive in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) skills.

“All school staff are fully trained in CPR and Transition Year students have undertaken training in CPR as part of the CPR4Schools programme,” said school spokesperson, Tim Long.

The programme provides students with the skills and confidence to recognise cardiac arrest and perform hands-only CPR.

Administration of CPR

Students learned the steps to take if such a situation occurs, contacting emergency services and how to administer CPR.

If you have been taught CPR, you are ten times more likely to respond appropriately in an emergency.

Students also had the opportunity to learn about the invaluable use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and the importance of fundraising events so that local communities can purchase an AED.

Teachers Certified Trainers

As the school year progresses, teachers Claire Hally and Owen Hayes as certified Irish Heart Foundation CPR Trainers will continue to work with other years to increase the number of students trained in CPR throughout the school.

Our students are a vital link in their home and school communities and are now future lifesavers!
