Extra time seals win for McCarthys. Team Tom McCarthy’s 63  – Oblate Dynamos 55

A fantastic game by both teams. The first quarter was level pegging throughout with both sides playing excellent defence and neither giving anything away.  At the end of this quarter the scores stood at 17 all.

Oblate started the better in the second quarter, getting some early score while McCarthy’s struggled to score. Here, McCarthy’s found themselves outscored and were six-point down at half time. In the third quarter the Castleisland ladies started to come back with some vital scores early with Miriam Leane, Denise Dunlea, Danielle McLaughlin, Aoife Nolan and Eileen O’Connor all finding the target.

Oblate kept plugging away and kept their lead at the end of this quarter 42-36. In the fourth quarter McCarthy’s were giving nothing away with fantastic defence from Eileen O’Connor, Danielle McLaughlin.   Aoife Nolan, Denise Dunlea, Philomena O’Connor and  Miriam Leane all hitting the board and outscoring Oblate 16-10 to level the game 52 all at the final whistle. Extra time was added and this was a tense affair. The crowd got behind McCarthy’s and this really drove the girls on and everyone of them played brilliantly and gave it everything outscring Oblate 11-3, to win 63-55.

A good game here by Team Tom McCarthy’s with all 12 players getting on the court. We started the better of the two teams in the first quarter, scoring 13-6 with Aoife Nolan, Eileen O’Connor, Denise Dunlea, Danielle McLaughlin and Miriam Leane all getting on the score sheet. In the second quarter Carlow upped the tempo scoring 16 points to our 14 but McCarthy’s still held a half time lead on the score 27-22. A good talk at half time and the Castleisland girls controlled the game from the start. They scored 22 points in the third quarter with Noelle Scalon, Daniel McLaughlin, Denise Dunlea and Lorraine Scanlon playing excellent defence.  Philomena O”Connor, Aoife Nolan, Miriam Leane and Eileen O’Connor contributed to the score. The third quarter finished 49-34. In the fourth quarter coach, Cormac O’Donoghue got to play some of his younger players. Aisling O’Connell scored two points. Roisin Casey and Aislinn O’Connell did great work in defence and they finished at the right side of the 66-41 score-line.
