The third annual An Ríocht AC / Lee Strand 10 Mile and 5k Road Race will be held on this Sunday, May 11th starting at 11am.
Last year’s event was a huge success when seven hundred took part, creating an unrivalled atmosphere from start to finish with a great buzz as all participants finished on the track.
Some of the people taking part will be experienced runners competing against each other and the clock. But the main body of participants will be those who will have their own personal goals. That may be improving on previous times for the event or conquering the distance for the first time. Either way, everybody is sure to have a great experience and will receive plenty of support from everyone along the route.
Couch-to-5K
It will also be a huge occasion for those running in their first 5K as a result of the Couch-to-5K programme of the past couple of months.
“An Ríocht Athletic Club is delighted to continue their great association with Lee Strand who have been very generous sponsors over a long period of time. We are also very happy to have Garvey’s on board as sub-sponsors,” said manager, Denny McSweeney in the run-up to the event.
Legendary An Ríocht AC distance runner John Lenihan designed a ten-week training programme for
those hoping to take on the 10 mile event. This year’s entry limit is 1,000. For further information on the race you’re advised to go to: www.riocht.ie or contact: 066 71 42199.
Friday Favourite
In honour of the big event and as part of our continuing and hugely popular Friday Favourite slot this week we look back to another big day in the life of the club. This collection of photographs is from the An Riocht / Zanussi 10K Road Race from a beautiful Sunday afternoon in September 1987.
