It has been yet another successful week for members of Castleisland Ladies Golf Club. The Noreen Moore team had a win over Ballybunion in Ardfert on Monday last and have progressed to the next round of this competition.
On Tuesday, captain, John O’Connell with lady captain, Margaret Moloney and president, Maurice O’Connor travelled to Adare to take part in the regional qualifier of the Allianz & Irish Independent Executive Golf Trophy. The trio walked away winners and will now go on to the national finals in September in the K Club.
In addition to the members’ competitions this weekend, the club will run an open, mixed foursomes on Monday. Booking can be made on line at www.castleislandgolfclub.com or by phoning 0667141709
Junior Golfers Progress in ‘The Fred Daly’
Castleisland’s junior golfers have progressed in yet another national competition. The boys recently reached the Munster quarter final of the junior foursomes. Though they were not successful in making the semi-final of this competition it did not deter them as they had a 5/2 win over Newcastle West in the first round of the ‘Fred Daly’ which was held in Beaufort just last week. This competition was started in memory of Ireland’s first Open Champion. The Fred Daly Trophy has been competed for since 1995.
In 1947 Daly won the Open Championship at Hoylake and also played in the Ryder Cup four times, 1947, 1949, 1951 and 1953.
The next round of the Munster junior competition is in June and will also be held in Beaufort G.C.
Team members are: David O’Donoghue, Colin McCarthy, Ronan Cross, James McAuliffe, Dylan Guirey, Connie O’Connor and Tadhg Walsh. And we all wish them luck.
