DEVOTEES of all things organic will find traditional music, song and dance in its own bed in Scartaglin on this Thursday evening, July 24th at 8-30pm. That crop of followers is being enticed to the Sliabh Luachra Cultural & Heritage Centre in Scart on the said evening and again on Thursday, August 28th at the same time.
There, a series of concerts is being planned to promote and celebrate the high calibre of talent in the Sliabh Luachra area.
“We’re delighted to welcome some of the finest traditional Sliabh Luachra musicians: singers, dancers, storytellers, folklorists and entertainers. It’s our way of playing our part in the Sliabh Luachra Music Trail. We would sincerely like to thank all for taking part in what promises to be two mighty nights of entertainment. The evenings will close in pure Rambling House style with lots of audience participation,” said organising committee spokesperson Bridie Garvey.
“Our living culture is an important experience for our communities and our visitors. The unique qualities of Sliabh Luachra Traditional Music must be nurtured to ensure this wealth of traditional art continues to flourish in the heart of the community. It’s there for those who want to experience it,” said Kate Kennelly, Arts Officer with Kerry County Council and a co-founder – with her Cork County Council counterpart, Cian Heffernan – of the Sliabh Luachra Music Trail.Tea, refreshments and a free raffle ticket are all included in the €10 admission fee. This event is being organised by the committee of the Sliabh Luachra Rambling House in Scartaglin. All the proceeds from both events are going to the upkeep of the Rambling House and the village Heritage Centre.

Dancers and Set Dancers: Mary Philpot and Dancers; Alan Cronin; the Nelligan sisters from Currow; the O’Keeffe Dancers from Rockchapel and the renowned Brush dancer, Connie Connor from Ballydesmond.
Singers will include ‘TheThree Euros’: Christy Cronin, Tom McKenna and Pat O’Sullivan.
All rounders: Peter O’Connor and family, Currow. Recitations, storytellers and folklorists; Lots of laughs with: John Burke; Jack Roche from Rockchapel and Sonny Egan is joining in the Rambling House Session with John Joe Tangney and Jimmy Cullinane.
The regular, monthly rambling house night in Scart will proceed as normal and the next one is scheduled for Monday, August 11th.
