Even after an eleven-night, sell-out run through the end of January and early February of this year, the play Wake in the West is still in huge demand in Scartaglin.
The locally based Sliabh Luachra Drama Group will re-run what was its 15th annual production over the the coming weekend. Opening on Friday night, the play will run over the three nights of the weekend 26th, 27th and 28th with an 8pm start each night.
‘Wake In The West’ by Michael J.Ginnelly is a three act comedy and will be staged at the heritage centre in the village. The plot centres on the wake of Tom Healy, a man who was known to be ‘fond of the drop’. Tom’s controversial last request threatens to humiliate his family and make them the laughing stock of the small fishing village in which they live. The group members assure their loyal patrons of a great night’s fun as the plot unravels.
Standing ovations and very positive feedback were the order of the nights during its run earlier this year and there’s no reason to believe this weekend’s stagings will be any different.
The cast includes: Tom Healy, Thade Hickey; Rose, Moira O’ Connor; Mary, Nora Walsh; Joan, Sinead O’ Driscoll; Martin, Danny O’ Leary; Dr. John, Tim Dineen; Fr.Cassidy, Dermot O’ Leary; Margaret, Catriona Hickey and Barney, Sean McGuire. The play is produced by Sean McGuire. Admission €10 and €8 OAP and students. Bookings 087 2434000
