The legendary Sharon Shannon with Alan O’Connor are coming to O Riadas Bar on Friday night, January 9th for one night. “Get your Christmas / Women’s Christmas present ideas unstuck and treat that someone special to an amazing night out.  Early booking is advised as I have only a limited amount of tickets,” said promoter, Mary Jones.

Mary, no stranger to the promotion of events great and small, is a founder member of the Patrick O’Keeffe Traditional Music Festival and co-organiser with the late Mike Kenny of the sell-out Ciarán MacMathúna tribute concert at the River Island Hotel in March 1995 – the 20th anniversary of which she and a bunch of co-conspirators are planning to mark in March.

Along with Sharon Shannon – who has played there in an informal session in recent times – Mick Hanley and Honor Heffernan have also appeared.

It was the success of these nights which got the innovative brain of Ms. Jones working and planning the moving of furniture about the place to create an intimate concert atmosphere at the hugely popular Ballymacelligott Bar and Restaurant.

Sharon Shannon will be accompanied by Alan Connor – a Dublin born multi-instrumentalist who plays percussion, guitar, piano and also sings and whom Sharon has described “an absolutely amazing musician.”

Their show includes all of Sharon’s great hits:  The Blackbird, Galway Girl, Coridinio as well as new material and a selection from her huge repertoire.

However, it wouldn’t show the print of Mary Jones’ hand unless there was a surprise in there somewhere. The last time I spoke to her she was working on that.

Tickets can be booked by ringing:  087 20 64 119 or for more information log onto: https://www.facebook.com/oriadasbar.ballymacelligott?fref=ts or simply click on the O Riadas Bar advert on this page.
