It’s very much a case of Fiche Bliain ag Fás (Twenty Years A-Growing) this week at The Treasure Chest at Lower Main Street, Castleisland. The temptation to borrow the title of the iconic Blasket Island literary gem proved too strong.
The Treasure Chest opened its doors on 19th April 1995 in The Island Centre on Castleisland’s Main Street. The business quickly expanded and, over the years, extended to four units which it occupies today.
“We are marking the celebrations with a 20% sale, 20 giveaways and €20 gifts and in-store surprises,” said manager, Margaret O’Connor.
“Retail can be difficult but thanks to all our loyal customers – not just in Castleisland but from all the surrounding parishes – we can celebrate this event,” said Margaret.
“It’s very important to us here in The Treasure Chest to get quality and price right. I feel if you get the balance of those two things right, you are on a winner. People want value for their money and rightly so. Even so, quality is also very important to them, as they say ‘you get what you pay for.’
“We get great pleasure in helping customers to choose, maybe a piece of furniture or a picture for their home, and seeing them happy knowing they have a one-off piece that won’t be seen elsewhere and that makes our job very rewarding.”

gladly take any item, maybe a mirror or picture to your home and let the customer see what it is like with their own colour scheme.
A lot of what we stock in The Treasure Chest is unique to us, like our beautiful scented pictures for example which are so popular for any room in your home, these come from Paris to us,”
There are special gift here for all ages and even the very young can get the often illusive something for mom or nan. Wedding gifts, birthday, retirement, new home, new baby and special golf and sports momentos for all occasions can be found on the shelves here.
“It can be challenging to source a range of products unique to The Treasure Chest but we travel every year to do just that and it’s what makes us distinctive.
We have always maintained a tradition of high quality as our ranges grew. Quality is not expensive it’s priceless,” said its proud manager.
