The Castleisland Chamber Alliance Christmas Street Party which was postponed due to adverse weather conditions on Saturday has been rescheduled. It will now take place on this Friday afternoon, December 11th from 4.30pm to 6.45pm.
“The postponement of the event last week left a lot of disappointed children and parents and we are expecting a huge crowd to join the fun this week,” said chamber spokesperson, Jeremy Burke.
Fireworks Display
The entertainment will include: Zumba Dancing; Carol Singing; Face Painting; Treats for children and, of course, Santa Claus will be making an appearance.
“We will also be lighting the massive Christmas Tree on Main Street, which has been sponsored this year by Garvey’s SuperValu.
The party will finish with a spectacular fireworks display that will light up the night sky,” said Jeremy.
Talking about the town’s huge Christmas tree, I was taken aside recently and told that this isn’t the biggest Christmas Tree ever in Castleisland. I knew that and, in fact, I didn’t claim it was.
Christmas Tree in June
Fadó, fadó a big Christmas Tree was erected at The Fountain and it made national headlines – but not at Christmas – it made it onto RTV on the following June and I’d guess that would have been around the mid to late 60s.
Yes, it was still there and the late Frank Hall featured it in one of his quirky, nationwide round-ups in his regular Newsbeat programme which ran from 1964 to 1971.
Friday evening from 4-30pm should be a lively affair on Main Street and all here are praying for a break in the weather.
