Castleisland Rugby Club’s U-14 team started its season back in late August when preparations began for a trip to London to play Finchley RFC and take in the Ireland v Romania RWC 2015 game in Wembley.
“Since then its been pretty much non stop and, where weather permits, we’re training two nights-a-week and we have games on Saturdays. We play in the West Munster League and we’re currently top of the table,” said coaching team member, Bill Horgan.
The squad consist of boys from most of the surrounding parishes as well as a young rebel from over the border in Knocknagree, Co. Cork.
Undefeated to Date
“We also had an exchange student named Marc Samos with us until Christmas but unfortunately he had to return home much to the disappointment of all involved including himself. We are currently nearing the end of our league campaign with only three games remaining and we remain undefeated to date and top the league going into the final furlong.
“We’ve worked hard on and off the field to make it an enjoyable experience for all concerned.
Several of our squad have only begun playing Rugby this season and have already become an integral part of our side.

“We get great support locally and we’ve just had a great start to 2016 with a gift of a set of team jerseys kindly sponsored by Mama Mia Pizza House and Family Restaurant, Upper Main St, Castleisland and Denis and Mary Browne, Castleisland,” said Bill.
