
The annual general meeting of Castleisland Horse and Pony Races Committee was held on Friday night.
This year the beneficiaries will be Castleisland Social Club Senior Citizens €500; St. Ita’s and St. Joseph’s School, Tralee, €500 and the main beneficiary will the newly formed Castleisland Graveyard Committee which will look after the upkeep and maintenance of the three local graveyards.
To date the committee has donated €119,200 to local charities. In 2015 the following donations were made to local charities: €500 to Castleisland Social Club; €2,100 to Senior Citizens’ Houses Committee; €1,000 to Glege Lodge and €150 to the Castleisland St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
10K Added to Humphrey Murphy 5K
The proceeds from the Humphrey Murphy fun run will go to Glebe Lodge and it is planned this year to add a 10k run to the 5k event due to popular demand.
Sunday, June 12th is the provisional date set for the races this year and this will be confirmed at a later date.
“Prior to the election of officers a minute’s silence was observed for our late President, Paddy Maher along with Bob O’Sullivan a member of the executive committee and Mike Reidy who all passed away recently.
The officers elected for 2016 are as follows: Presidents: Jim Lordan and Vincent Murphy; Chairman, Charlie Farrelly; Vice Chairman, Martin Conway; Joint secretaries: Kay Reidy and Martina O’Mahony; Treasurers: Ronan Bourke and John Ryan. Public Relation Officer, Pat Hartnett; Safety Officer, Tom O’Sullivan.
Executive Committee: Ted Kenny, James Maher, Willie Reidy, Bill Reidy, Mags O’Sullivan.
Working Committee.
William O’Connor, Sean Walsh, Rachel O’Mahony, John O,Sullivan, Frank Kenny, John Reidy, Gina Reidy, Sarah Maher, Lacey Reidy, Michael, Shane, Denis and Mark Reidy and Eamon Breen.
It was also confirmed that Mort Reidy and Patrick O’Leary of R.O.L Contractors, London will continue as main sponsors for 2016.
