Gardaí have advised householders in the Castleisland area to ensure their home heating oil is secure after a tank was drained by thieves in the area.
A house in Ahaneboy was targeted while the occupants were out and they returned to find that the oil was stolen.
Gardaí said it is a problem in the area from time to time and with the price of oil falling, more people are filling their tanks and that makes it an ever bigger temptation for thieves.
Lock on Oil Tanks
The public has been advised to consider putting a lock on their oil tanks and to install lighting that can be activated if there is any interference with the tank.
Meanwhile, gardai are also investigating a burglary in a private house in the the Kilmanihan West area of Knocknagoshel which also occurred while the owners were out.
Cash and Jewellery
Thieves pounced sometime between 10.50am and 3.00pm on Monday of last week and they made off with cash and jewellery after searching the property.
An alert neighbour reported seeing a silver coloured saloon-type car near the property and taking off at speed around the time of the raid.
Anyone with any information that might be of assistance is asked to contact the local garda station on 066 71 41204.
