The Castleisland based Sliabh Luachra Boxing Club held its annual Participation Boxing Awards at ringside in the NEWKD building on Saturday afternoon.
The club is now in its 10th year and is fighting fit as it faces into its second decade.
“Our aims have always been to encourage the development of values, self-confidence and self esteem in all the young people involved in our club,” said spokesperson Jennifer O’Sullivan-Coffey.
Equal Opportunities
The club promotes equal opportunities for everyone involved. It caters for members as young as five to 10year-olds in our Boxercise classes and 11years upwards for the boxing club.
Saturday’s event was a chance for the club to celebrate the participation of all the young people involved in the club.
“We think it is important today to celebrate all the hard work which the young people, coaches and volunteers have contributed throughout the year.
“Every member received a cert and medal for their participation and Cllr. John Joe Cullotty arrived and helped to present some of the awards. It was lovely day and it was great to see so much support from the families involved.
Huge Commitment
“Our volunteers are so important to the club. They give up their time every week to run the club, to take the members to tournaments.
They all received a token to acknowledge their support and the huge commitment they make to the club. We are so very lucky to have such a committed group of people involved.
“Our team of coaches and volunteers are as follows: John O’ Connell, Paul Griffin, Anthony Walsh, Abina McSweeney, John Coffey, Adam Tees, Carmel O’Connell, Maura O’Leary and Don Rogers,” said Jennifer.
