By Club PRO, Deirdre O’Sullivan
Our club has grown from strength to strength in recent years and so we continually strive to maintain and develop our facilities in order to cater for all the footballing needs of the club members and those who visit.
Source of Funding
The Lotto has been a great source of funding for much work in our club over the past years which include the construction of our clubrooms -complete with a large meeting/function room, physio room, office, and referees room.
An extensive project was undertaken a few years back to drain the playing field which created optimum playing conditions. This year we up graded our toilet facilities and replaced the floor on our fully equipped gym with the latest flooring surface.
The entrance gate was another large venture – where a separate entrance and exit was created. This ensures the safety of all patrons using our facilities. The rise in local population has meant we are finding it very difficult to accomodate our growing numbers on one playing pitch.
A Second Pitch
Therefore, it is now our priority to try and secure a second pitch- so that the youth of our community continue to enjoy playing sport. And at the core of that expansion will be the continued funding from the support of the club Lotto. Aodhán Mac Ghearailt recently highlighted to us ‘There are very few organisations in Irish society that can unite a community like your local GAA club. It empowers individuals to become better people- proud of their inherited values, and most importantly it builds healthy relationships. The importance of a healthy social outlet should never be underestimated particularly amongst children. In an age dominated by technology and with quick entertainment only a click away it is easy to slip into unhealthy habits. Our local GAA club here in Milltown Castlemaine allows children to feel valued, respected, cared for and included.
Experience Success
It allows them to experience success and failure and to ultimately build resilience for bigger challenges later in their lives. Not every child will have an interest in football but all children need to exercise, need to interact socially with their peers and need to involve themselves in their community building relationships and improving their own social skills along the way. A huge amount of gratitude is owed to all of those fantastic people in all our GAA communities who may never realise the positive impact their efforts are having on the youth of Ireland. Ní neart go cur le chéile.’ We would like to thank all our ticket sellers, particularly Willie Hanafin who has been our top seller throughout the years. And of course those loyal people who continue to buy tickets each week, your generosity is very much appreciated by the club. So why not try your luck.
Come along to Larkins Bar, Milltown on Friday next July 15 th at 9.30 for our Lotto Anniversary celebrations. You never know, it just might be your lucky night!
