Met Éireann has issued a Code Level Orange Weather Warning for Kerry

Storm Ali will track close to the west and northwest coast from the early hours of Wednesday morning until late afternoon.

Winds of 65 to 80km

South to southwest winds veering westerly will increase to mean speeds of between 65 and 80 km/h with gusts between 110 and 120 km/h for a time in some areas. Winds strongest along Atlantic Coasts at first and later in the morning extending further east.

Valid from 05:00 Wednesday 19-September-2018 until 13:00 Wednesday 19-September-2018

Severe Assessment Team

Kerry County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team met today to review the warning and has advised members of the public, motorists and property owners to be prepared for high winds overnight and tomorrow morning in particular.

Risk of Fallen Trees

Extreme care should be taken during the morning work and school commute and particularly in coastal areas and higher ground owing to high winds.

All motorists should drive with extreme care, allow extra time for journeys and watch out for fallen branches and debris on roads. There may also be a risk of fallen trees.

Secure Loose Items

Property owners and businesses should take all reasonable precautions to secure any loose items of furniture, hoardings and signage, particularly after the prolonged period of fine weather over the summer months.

Kerry County Council will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates through the media and on its social media channels.
