Return to Sender

After 17 years of delivering post around the parish, John Cronin hung up his An Post vest last week.

John was a welcome face for many when he brought his unique brand of good humour along with a parcel or letter to the houses on his route.

I’ve heard so many fabulous accolades from quarters far and wide, complimenting John.  The main source of sadness with his retirement seems to be along the lines of ‘How will I know what’s going on around the place with John finishing up.’

More than one mentioned how a 15 minute conversation with John each morning, rarely ended without some witticism.

Not forgetting, his was the cheerful and conscientious face that some folks only saw during the dark phases of the pandemic. For all your good services, John, and your cheerful and boundless energy, thank you.

And for anyone wondering what John’s retirement will look like, I ran into his wife, Ellen, in Castleisland last week.  She tells me she has a lot of paint ordered and is getting the brushes and rollers out of cold storage.  Behind every great man, is a woman – giving instructions.

The Late Matt Jnr. O’Donnell.

Gone too Soon

It is with a sad heart we remember the lovely Matt Jnr O’Donnell who passed away last week.

A gentle, loving son and brother who bravely endured a long illness. We think of the O’Donnell and Riordan families, especially Jnr’s mother Joan and his sisters and their families.

It’s so sad to see a young person with so much life ahead of them taken too soon. May he rest in peace.

GAA News – Hitting the Highways

Shake out those orange and white scarves, we’re hitting the highways and byways of Kerry as the county league has literally kicked off.

Our first encounter is with Tarbert at home on Sunday, February 6th at 2pm.  Looking forward to seeing you at Páirc na Féile.

New Management Team

We have a new management team overseeing our senior team headed up by inspirational Banisteoir William Legend Curtin.

Physical coaching is being spearheaded by Tom Fitzgerald, who certainly knows his stuff when it comes to building and maintaining healthy bodies. Selectors Paul Reidy and Bobby Woods Jr will bring their analytical know-how to the sideline too.

We send our heartfelt thanks to the outgoing manager and selectors for their valiant efforts.

Dave Curtin, Micheál Murphy, Kieran Curtin and Danny Downey, ably shepherded the senior panel through the stop-start championships and leagues of the pandemic.

You were stalwart in all your initiatives. We salute you.
