September School Transport Arrangement Applications Invited Now

Parents and guardians especially of children moving on to secondary school in September are being urged to prepare now to provide them with transport to bring their children to their new school.

“It is important to apply for school transport in good time. Waiting until the summer months to register can cause stress and difficulty in the weeks prior to beginning of school in September,” said Cllr. Fionnán Fitzgerald who was responding to a request from Bus Éireann to get the word out to his constituents.

Valuable and Important Service

“This is a very valuable and important service to many people and I encourage those involved to become as familiar as possible with it over the next few weeks,” said Cllr. Fitzgerald.

“Applications for school transport for the new school year 2022/23 have opened from Monday 24 January 2022.

“Applications must be made by Friday 29 April 2022.  Importantly, this applies only for new applicants seeking primary and/or post-primary school transport for 2022/23.

“That includes: Students starting school in September 2022; Students moving school, including those moving from primary to post-primary school; Students who have or will move address before the 2022/23 school year.

End of April Closing Date

“The closing date for new applications is Friday 29 April.

“Missing this deadline may mean no seat will be available, even for students deemed eligible on the basis of distance from the nearest school. No fees are required at this point,” said Cllr. Fitzgerald cautioned.
