Social Prescribing Link Worker, Marion Godley, will attend Castleisland Family Resource Centre on Wednesday’s mornings from 11am -12 noon commencing April 6th.

Social prescribing is about supporting the health and well-being of individuals by connecting them with social groups in their area.

Clients can be referred or self-refer by simply contacting Ms. Godley directly. The types of organisations which typically refer clients to are: GPs and members of primary care teams, such as dieticians and occupational therapists.

Supporting Health and Well-being

After the referral is made Ms. Godley will arrange to meet with the client and discuss what might support their health and well-being.

She will then do some research to check what is available in the client’s local area that meets their needs.

On average, clients are met six times, but this varies depending on the wishes of the client.

Social prescribing works from a person centred perspective where the needs and wants of the clients come first.

Non-judgemental and Respectful

Clients are treated in a non-judgemental, respectful way.

The following is a list of some of the activities that clients have joined with the support of social prescribing: Walking groups; Park Run; Active Retired Groups; Men’s Shed; Art and Craft groups; Men’s Strength and Flexibility; Introduction to fitness; Yoga – and some clients have also returned to education.
