In the depths of last October An Ríocht Athletic Club announced that it planned the re-introduction of an old friend to its menu of facilities.

With a wave of her hand, facility manager Lisa Horgan announced that Couch-2-5K, which first entered the scene in Castleisland in the summer of 2012, was being brought back.

It made a grand entrance on November 6th with a turn-out of 120 – many of whom took part in the previous seasons.

That session ran up to Christmas with attendances well up except for nights with the kind of weather you wouldn’t put your mother-in-law out in.

Monday Night January 22nd.

The post Christmas 2024 season of Couch-2-5K will get under way at An Ríocht Athletic Club on the coming Monday, January 22nd. As before, it’s on a twice weekly, 30 minute session basis on Mondays at 7:15pm and Thursdays at 8:15pm

The mantra of the event volunteers to the participants it always that they should move at their own pace and there’s nothing to prove to anyone.

Old Friends and New Faces

The cost of the sessions will be €3 per person per night and national school children will be free of charge and will need to be supervised at all times by a parent / guardian.

“We were delighted to see both old friends and new faces at the relaunch last November and we hope to see them again on the coming Monday night,” said Lisa.

Participants can block book the ten week by two weekly sessions for €50 or pay as you go at €3 per night.
