All Set for ‘Nine Night’ 36th Kerry Drama Festival in Castleisland

The 36th annual Kerry Drama Festival will get underway at the Ivy Leaf Art Centre here in Castleisland tomorrow night Friday, March 1st 2024. at 8pm.

Patrons can look forward to a nine night run of great drama which, this year, includes a Kerry group.

The North Kerry based Memory Lane Drama group is entering the competition this year with its stage adaptation of the epic Brendan Kennelly poem Trojan Womenwhich the group, directed by Pádraig Dennehy from Lixnaw, premiered in Ballylongford at the end of last summer.

The line-up for the 2024 Kerry Drama Festival is as follows:

Friday, March 1st. Clontarf Drama Group presents: The Radium Girls from the book on the sad story of America’s ‘Shining Women’ by Kate Moore. Saturday. March 2nd. Kilmeen Drama Group presents: The Lonesome West by Martin McDonagh.

Sunday, March 3rd. Prosperous Dramatic Society presents: A View from the Bridge by Arthur Miller. Monday, March 4th. Holycross / Ballycahill Drama Group presents: Dancing at Lughnasa by Brian Friel. Tuesday, March 5th. Sliabh Aughty Drama Group presents: Same Old Moon by Geraldine Aron.

Wednesday, March 6th. Co. Galway based Dunmore Amateur Dramatic Society / D.A.D.S. presents: Faith Healer by Brian Friel.

Thursday, March 7th. Memory Lane Theatre presents: Trojan Women by Brendan Kennelly. Friday, March 8th. Brideview Drama Group presents: Antigone by Sophocles. Saturday, March 9th. St. Patrick’s Drama Group, Westport presents Agnes of God by John Pielmeier.

Festival Adjudicator is Anna Walker

Anna Walker is a member of Amateur Drama Association since 2008, and she has relished the opportunity to adjudicate at numerous festivals throughout Ireland.

She is proud to have had the opportunity of adjudicating the One Act Drama Finals in Ennis in 2011, the Confined Drama Finals in Castleblayney in 2016, the All Ireland Drama Finals in Athlone in 2018 and the One Act Drama Finals in Rossmore in 2019.

She has an M.A. in Drama and Theatre Studies from U.C.D., and a diploma of Associate and Licentiate from the Royal Irish Academy. Her working life embraces a wide range of drama disciplines and activities. She is Senior Drama Examiner with the Royal Irish Academy, tutors Drama students, adjudicates Festivals and Feiseanna, and has directed for a number of acting companies. She is also secretary of ADA.
