Desmonds and Knocknagoshel Bid Bon Voyage to Eda and Willie

All in Castleisland Desmonds GAA Club want to wish Knocknagoshel native Eda Mangan a very fond Bon Voyage as she heads off on a new adventure to Australia.

By Dan Kearney

A mainstay of the senior team for many years where she starred across the half back line, Eda is also a former Desmonds captain and travels down under as one of the most decorated players to ever pull on the white and blue jersey.

As well as numerous underage titles, including a county league division one and féile title at U-14 level, Eda leaves for Oz with a huge collection of honours in the senior ranks and it makes for impressive reading:

An All Ireland Intermediate medal in 2014, two x Kerry intermediate championships, two x Munster Intermediate championships, one x County Senior Championship and one x Division One county league.

That’s fair impressive in any language!

Great People = Great Footballers

They say great people make great footballers and Eda certainly falls into that category.

In many ways Eda is a coach’s dream. Never one to miss training or moan, she always went about her business in a quiet way that disguised her ferocious competitive nature. Her honesty and application at Desmonds training was an example to all of our young players coming up through the ranks.

For now, we wish Eda, and her boyfriend Willie Hurley, a safe journey that will be laced with huge success as they depart on their adventure.

But, she’s only on loan! We look forward to the day that we see Eda back in our colours once more!

All the best Eda, we’ll miss you big time, but have a mighty time down under!
