Castleisland Community College proudly celebrated the remarkable achievements of its students at the recent Kerry ETB awards.
The students were honoured with prestigious awards that reflect their dedication, hard work, and all-round excellence.
Castleisland Community College is one of eight post primary schools in Kerry that are part of the Education and Training Board. Kerry ETB is an organisation that serves over 3,000 students.
The gold medal for the Best Overall Academic Student, in all eight Kerry ETB schools went to Lauren O’Sullivan.
600 Points in Six Subjects
Lauren’s outstanding academic performance, achieving over 600 points in six Leaving Certificate subjects, earned her the Gold Medal along with eight other students from other Kerry ETB schools.
Overall Best Science and Maths Student in all eight Kerry ETB schools – Silver Medal: Emma Kerin. Emma’s accomplishments in Maths and Science are a testament to her commitment, work ethic, and genuine passion for her subjects.
Junior Cycle Academic Award – Silver Medal: Bryan O’Leary. Bryan’s outstanding performance in the 2023 Junior Certificate examinations has earned him the Silver Medal for the best results in his school.
Excellence in Teaching and Learning
School Ethos Award – Certificate: Conor Breen. Conor exemplifies the Kerry ETB ethos and values of Care, Equality, Community, Respect and Excellence in Teaching and Learning.
Transition Year Achievement Award – Certificate: Cathal White. Cathal embodies the essence of Transition Year through his accountability, independence, and initiative.
School Sports Awards- Certificate: Ciara Geaney Ciara’s exceptional achievements in showjumping, coupled with her academic excellence, have rightfully earned her the Schools’ Sports Excellence Award.
Student Council Award- Certificate: Chloe Barrett. Chloe exemplifies the ideal Student Council Chairperson, showcasing exceptional accountability, independence, initiative, and innovation.
Following the Kerry ETB awards, a celebration evening was held in Castleisland Community College for parents and students to showcase the fantastic work accomplished in all subject areas.
Extra-Curricular Activities Showcased
Classroom Based Assessments could be viewed and projects were on display in Home Economics, Woodwork and Engineering. The extra-curricular activities were also showcased with the largenumber of trophies on display for the outstanding achievements of the school in one academic year.
There were three All Ireland wins in sport: All Ireland A Division, Junior, first year Basketball boys; All-Ireland A Division Minor, second year Basketball Boys; All-Ireland U-14 FAI Boys Soccer winners and All-Ireland A Division first Year Basketball Girls, Bronze medal winners.
Other wins included Munster U-15 FAI Boys B for small schools soccer champions, Munster Football U-15 C Boys shield winners for Kerry FAI first year boys soccer, plate winners for Munster West Girls Minor Football and blitz winners for Kerry ETB minor girls football.
Other Extra-Curricular Areas
In other extra-curricular areas, there were national wins: All-Ireland gold award winners in the Young Social Innovators Competition for transition year and fifth year students. Sixth year students won the National Garda Youth Achievement Award, second year students won the All-Ireland Student Enterprise Awards and sixth year students won the European Silver Award in Foróige Enterprise and were also ETB Ireland national winners. The junior debating team also came first and sec nd in the Kerry Schools Debating competition.
Castleisland Community College is a very holistic school. There is something for everyone in the school with the huge array of extra-curricular activities available for students.
