The Late Dick Geaney, Castleisland, Chicago and Kildare

Dick, who passed away on Saturday in Kildare, also played minor football for Kerry in 1964 and ’65 and he captained the Kerry minor team which lost in the All-Ireland final of the latter year to Derry.

That Kerry minor team included: Mick Aherne, Jim Coughlan, Tim Crean, Dick Geaney, Tim Kelliher, Brendan Lynch, Bryan McCarthy, Dermot Moriarty, Fergus Moroney, Pat O’Connell, Pat O’Donovan, James O’Sullivan, Paul Scanlon. Kevin Griffin. Michael Costello and Gene O’Donnell.

Four Sigerson Cup Medals

He then went on to play with UCC winning four Sigerson Cup and one Cork County Championship medal while there.

He togged out regularly with Castleisland Desmonds up until 1974 and he was a member of the Desmonds senior football team which defeated Finuge to win their first North Kerry League final in November 1971.

He spent most of his life in Chicago. He retained a strong interest in Desmonds and Kerry football over the years and was a regular attender at Gaelic Park , Chicago, Moanmore  and Croke Park.

A memorial service will be held for him in Dublin on Thursday. Condolences to his family members. May he rest in peace.
