There was a low-key launch and a photo-shoot outside Browne’s Bar on Lower Main Street, Castleisland on Saturday evening for an event that’s sure to capture the imagination and support of the local community here.

The late Mairead Browne nee Nolan, Church Street lost a long battle with illness on May 13th last and now her family members have turned their thoughts to an appropriate memorial on an eventful day which will include a 5km walk on Saturday October 12th.

Taking in Church Street

The walk, from 10am., will set out from the library car park on a route that will take in Church Street and pass by Mairead’s home place at number 19.

“Then that night from 9pm we will be in Browne’s Bar where there will be leg and chest waxing, head shaving and a raffle and music with DJ Mike Hayes,” said Billy J. Browne one of the organisers and, along with Matthew, a son of Mairead. They have joined up with their cousins the Fitzgeralds from Currow in the planning of the day.

“We will have sponsorship cards up around the town later this week and all money raised will go to the Palliative Care Unit at UHK in recognition of the wonderful care they gave to Mairead,” said Billy.

Gifts of Gratitude

Death notices in recent years almost always contain a few lines of sincere tributes, from the families of the deceased, for the care they get in their final days and hours.

The Browne, Fitzgerald and Nolan families are taking their gifts of gratitude to another level and are organising this special day on October 12th as their means of sincere expression.

We’ll keep you posted.
