The Castleisland Active Retirement Group has had quite an adventurous summer this year with four coach outings.

The first was a trip to Co. Clare when they took the Shannon Ferry and made their first stop at the Vandeleur Gardens in Kilrush.

After the necessary cupán tae they saw a short film then wandered around the magnificent Walled Gardens.

“Lunch was then taken at the Stella Maris Hotel in Kilkeel before driving on to the Loop Head Lighthouse,” said group spokesman, Peter Howarth.

Diamond Rocks for Refreshments

“On the way home we stopped at the picturesque Diamond Rocks for refreshments. The second trip was into Killarney to see the concert by the High Kings in the INEC.

“On the third trip we invited some members from the Currow group to join us to attend the Knocknagoshel Group’s 30th anniversary with excellent food and dancing.

“Our final excursion, again with members from Currow and Scartaglin, was to the Dingle Peninsula where we started the day at the Dunbeg Fort and Stonehouse Cafe.

Riasc Monastic Site

“We then visited the Riasc Monastic Site before an excellent luncheon at the Ceann Sibéal Hotel in Ballyferriter.

“We then visited the Músaem Chorca Dhuibhne before going to the Blasket Centre for a film followed by a wander around the recently renovated exhibition.

“Things are now back to normal with our regular meetings in St. Bridget’s Room behind Castleisland Church from 2.30 – 4.30 every Thursday with chat, light exercises, tea and cake/biscuits,  quizzes, bingo and a singsong. All over 55s are welcome to join us.

“For more information, call 087 7938 742 or just come along to St. Bridget’s on a Thursday afternoon.  A welcome awaits you,” said Peter.
