Castleisland Community Museum returns to a schedule of activity now that the whirl of old concrete footpath breaking and new concrete laying has passed its door in an up-town direction.
The pristine new footpath was in its element on Saturday evening as the heavens opened and it drank in every welcome drop of soft rain in the course of its curing process.
So new and bright are the footpaths now that there are people who swear that they’re at least three to four feet wider that they were.
The coming week includes the country-wide celebrated Culture Night on Friday night. However, Castleisland Community Museum is going with its programme of events on Thursday night to avoid any clash with plans at the Sliabh Luachra Heritage Centre in Scartaglen on Friday night.
Rachel’s Art Exhibit
At the museum on Thursday evening at 7:30pm local artist Rachel Gallagher will open her exhibition to the public.
This will be followed by an evening of music, poetry and song at 8pm led by the energetic and musically brilliant Sheila Heery and her friends and guests.
The museum will also welcome members of the Castleisland Active Retirement group on the evening with their spokesperson and poet Peter Howarth.
And, still in an artistic vein, the museum is going ahead with its Timothy Murphy Memorial Photographic Competition in honour of a man who photographed everything that moved around here in the course of his life time.
Whatever Takes your Fancy
The competition will be open to all ages and methods of photography from vintage cameras to mobile phones.
The organisers are inviting photographers or occasional snappers to send their best shots to the email address below accompanied by full name and contact phone number.
Photographs of whatever takes your fancy. Falling or fallen leaves, trees silhouetted or bathed in sunlight, nanas or grandads, moms and dads, neighbours and friends.
Set Your Imagination Loose
Set your imagination loose and do add a caption / title to the entry and your age if you’re a student.
The competition adjudicators will not be aware of the identity of the photographers as they deliberate on the winners.
On advice, the ‘shooting time’ has been extended and there will be a second level schools winner and runners up prizes. Photographs can be sent to: castleislandmuseum@gmail.com
