Ciara Shanahan, a student at Castleisland Community College from Farranfore, repurposed timber from a century old Oak tree for a school and leaving certificate project.
The tree fell victim of a storm a number of years ago and Ciara took the opportunity to use what she could for her 25% leaving certificate Construction Studies Project.
The tree had been cut into 150mm slabs and allowed to dry naturally in a shed at home in the intervening years.
In an era of environmental sustainability, the carbon footprint of this project was zero as Ciara hand-crafted a beautiful, modern, contemporary chair for her Leaving Certificate Construction Studies project 2024.
