It was a week of celebration for Presentation Castleisland as both their U-19 and U-16 girls basketball teams secured impressive victories on Monday and Tuesday last.
Following along the lines of the outstanding school tradition fostered there by former PE teacher and coach, John Enright, the teams returned impressive wins against tough opposition on both counts.
The U-19 team claimed a 47-29 victory over Presentation Thurles in the A Cup. The Pres Girls started strong, leading 13-9 after the first quarter and steadily pulled away, holding a 24-13 lead by halftime.
Hazel Bourke dominated under the boards, while Emily O’Donoghue’s sharp shooting made a significant impact.
Delight for Coaches Leane and Crowley
Coach Miriam Leane and assistant Denis Crowley expressed delight at the team’s performance, anticipating more success in the coming weeks.
The team will face Mounthawk, Tralee in their first South-West League match next week.
Meanwhile, the U-16 Presentation Castleisland girls put on an equally commanding display, defeating Pobalscoil Sliabh Luachra, Rathmore, with a score of 46-15.
Team Found its Rhythm
After a slow start, the team found its rhythm, leading 25-8 at halftime. Katie Crowley stood out with an impressive 16 points, while Jessie O’Keeffe and Liadh Griffin excelled in defense.
This young team, too, looks forward to its next cup game and will face Mounthawk, Tralee in the league opener next week.
Excitement for the Future
Both teams have made a strong start to the season, showcasing the depth of talent at Presentation Castleisland.
With their cup campaigns underway and league games on the horizon, excitement is building for what lies ahead.
