The East Kerry based Mastergeeha F.C. is the latest in a long list of sports clubs and community organisations to benefit from the generosity of the Castleisland motor trade institution, Divanes Kerry.
The soccer club members travelled to Divane’s Castleisland base recently to collect two sets of playing gear for their senior team.
“We would like to thank Divanes Kerry sincerely for their generous sponsorship of two playing kits for our senior teams,” said club treasurer, David Fleming.
“Our club currently fields one senior team and eleven underage teams in competitions organised by the Kerry District League and the Kerry Schoolboys and Girls League and the club first entered one senior team in the KDL in September 1979.
“With a membership of over 400, the club caters from U-5’s up to senior level and well as offering social soccer to male and female players,” said Mr. Fleming.
About Divanes Kerry
Divanes is an institution in the motor trade in Ireland. Main Volkswagen dealer for Kerry since 1954, the Castleisland based family business has been providing an exceptional service for almost seven decades.
Divanes have been thriving since the company was established by the late Stanley Divane, who entered the motor trade in 1935.
Stanley decided to go it alone and ventured into business in 1954 and Divanes was born. Stanley sold his first new Volkswagen on the 15th of June 1955 and the business has never looked back since that very day.
Divanes Kerry celebrated its 70th year in the motor trade earlier this year.
About Mastergeeha FC
Mastergeeha F.C. was founded in 1979 under the title ‘Mastergeeha Rangers F.C.’ – the name was subsequently changed to Mastergeeha F.C. in 1999. The club first entered one senior team in the KDL in September 1979.
The senior team was promoted from Division 4 in 1984 and from Division 3 in 1988 and from Division 2 in 1991 to reach the premier division 12 years after its formation.
Unfortunately, during the 90’s, success for the senior team proved elusive. However, in 1991 the club entered it’s first schoolboy team in the under twelve leagues. Thus began a major transformation of the club’s activities and since then there has been successes on the field of play at all levels.
Lotto Introduced in 1993
In September 1993 the club introduced a Lotto draw to raise funds to purchase a permanent base. In July 1997 seven acres were purchased in Knockinane West on the border of the Kilcummin and Killarney parishes.
Four years later in 2001 dressing rooms were built and this building was significantly extended in 2009 to provide additional dressing rooms and other facilities to cater for the growing number of club members.
Since the acquisition of a permanent HQ, the club’s ground maintenance programme has ensured excellent playing facilities for its players. Kilbrean Park is now acknowledged as one of the premier soccer grounds in Kerry.
With a membership of over 400, the club caters from U-5’s up to senior level and well as offering social soccer to male and female players.
