The U-16 Basketball Cadette playoffs were held in Castleisland, Community Centre on Saturday. Hosts, Presentation Castleisland met favourites Virginia College, Cavan, who battled well against a relentless home side. The Presentation girls finally emerged the winners on an impressive score of 59-40. St. Angela’s, Cork later played Presentation Thurles and Presentation Castleisland but were defeated in both games.

The game between Presentation Thurles and Presentation Castleisland proved to be much closer. However, with both teams going basket for basket, Presentation Castleisland gradually pulled away with a score of 44-30.

After winning all three games, Presentation Castleisland now qualify for the All-Ireland semi-final play-offs in March.

The final game of the day between Presentation Thurles and Virginia Cavan was to decide the runners places up of the Cadette A playoffs. After a slow start in the first quarter, Presentation Thurles proved to be no match for a determined Cavan side and they lost out on a score of 29-41

Best of luck to Presentation Castleisland in the All-Ireland semi-final next March.
