No Interest = No Parade – say organisers

An important meeting to organise this year’s St Patrick’s Day Parade will take place in Peter Browne’s Bar on this Thursday night at 7.30pm.

“I can’t emphasise enough the importance of this meeting because if interest is not shown from both the community and business people in the town then this year’s parade will not go ahead. So it’s up to the town’s people to get involved or the street will be very bleak this year if the parade does not go ahead,” said organising group member, Ted Kenny.

Only once in the quarter of a century or so since the parade was revived by Helen and Aeneas Leane and Ard Rí Michael McGillicuddy did it fail to appear on the streets here. Then, it was supposed to have been organised by a gaggle of organisations and groups and it fell between several stools.

Is it possible that the streets of the town will be bare, cold and silent this March 17th? It’s very much a live possibility if there isn’t an impressive show of support at the meeting at Peter Browne’s Bar on this Thursday night, February 20th at 7-30pm.
