Garvey’s were not at full strength as Declan Wall, Declan Culhane and Daragh O’Hanlon all picked up injuries during the week. However, the remainder of the squad stepped up to the challenge and took an early lead over the Dublin side.  Some opportunities were missed in the early stages but Garvey’s still registered 19 points for the quarter taking a seven point lead over their opponents.

A huge second quarter from John Galvin – who has been playing spectacularly this season – along with great performances from Declan Cahill, Daragh Jones and Dan Griffin saw Garvey’s increase their lead to 12 points by half time.

Cahill, Galvin and Griffin continued to register scores throughout the third quarter. Galvin and Daragh Jones and Donal McCarthy ensured that Tolka got no second chances as they picked up all defensive rebounds.  Tolka’s Sean Moore, Paul Caffery and Richard Sutton were best for Tolka but overall the Dublin side missed several easy chances. With two minutes remaining in the quarter Maurice Casey netted his first score of the game to contribute towards a 14 point lead as the sides entered the final 10 minutes.

Tolka kept the pressure on to the final whistle but were no match for the St. Mary’s side who are currently in fourth place in the league table.
