The long awaited Kilmurry National School fun run takes place on this Friday evening, April 4th. at 7pm.

Registration begins at 6pm at Cordal Community Centre and the entry is only €5.

Long awaited it is because the pupils there have been in training around the quiet, country roads on a 2.5k circuit away from and back to the doors of the school.

They’ve been multi-tasking too as they’ve made a cloth banner the width of the road.  As far as they’re concerned that’s a standard unit of measurement we should all have off by heart.

We do know though that the school itself and the support system it has drawn from the locality it serves is as tightly woven as the fabric which will carry the name of the school and the occasion at the head of Friday evening’s big occasion.

Teacher, Basketball and Ladies Football star, Joanne Brosnan explained that the school’s policy is very much one of activity and she carries the scars of involvement herself as she hobbles on crutches from a recent Basketball injury.

“We’re doing a fundraising 5K Fun Run for the school as part of our ‘Active Flag Programme’ and we’re doing a lot of different activities to get the children involved. Since the fine weather came we have been taking them on walks through the quiet roads along the countryside around the school and they love it.

“We have a lot of good runners in the school here as well and this is a great opportunity for them to show their talents. They’re well prepared and we’re hoping for a big crowd on Friday evening with lots of families and it’s going to be a great community occasion for all,” said Ms. Brosnan.
