Desmonds Need to Re-discover Form for Weekend Test

Legion secured a well deserved win over Desmond’s by 2-15 to 1-10 in Castleisland last Sunday.

Colm Kirwan Reports:

With the aid of a stiff breeze the Killarney side settled much more quickly, winning much of the possession and providing their forwards with quick accurate ball. They established an early lead scoring a number of fine points before Shaun Keane scored an excellent goal.  Desmond’s did respond with good points from Thomas Hickey (0-2), Maurice O’Connell (0-2) and  Kieran O’Callaghan (0-1) but another goal by Tom Moriarty gave Legion a 2-9 to 0-5 lead at the break.

Desmond’s, to their credit fought back, but despite a great performance from Kieran Brennan (0-1) at full forward and an expertly converted penalty by Thomas Hickey Legion matched the home side point for point.  Desmond’s gave away too much hard won possession too easily that allowed their opponents to maintain a secure 8 point winning margin.

Desmond’s will need to rediscover the form that they produced against St. Pat’s as they face St. Senan’s in the North Kerry league semi final in Knocknagoshel on Sunday at 12.noon and travel to play Skellig Rangers in R3 of the county league the following week.
