Castleisland Golf Club’s junior boys are making a name for both themselves and their club. The team of:  Ronan Cross, Colin McCarthy, David O’Donoghue and James McAuliffe have now reached the third round of the Munster Junior Foursomes. The boys came through round one which was played in Castleisland in early April. Here, they fought off some stiff competitors such as:  Tralee, Killarney, Bantry, Killorglin and Ballybunion. The Ballybunion juniors were also successfull in coming through round one and the sides were then drawn to play each other in the next round.  They met in Beaufort on Sunday last, April 27th and the Castleisland boys were once again victorious.

Round three, which is actually the quarter final, of the Munster section of the competition will now be played on Sunday, May 18th when Castleisland will take on Mallow in Macroom Golf Course.  The boys, who also have the back-up duo of Dylan Guirey and Connie O’Connor will be seeking to book their place in the Munster semi-final which is set for East Cork G.C. in late July.

Niall Greaney is the junior club officer at Castleisland Golf Club this season. This is a role he inherited from Brendan Mullins.

“Brendan put an amount of time and effort into the junior club over the past number of years and it’s paying off now. For that, there is great credit is due to him,” said Niall.
