Dust Settled on 155th Castleisland Races

The Castleisland Horse and Pony Races meeting was held on Mossie Brosnan’s land at  Powell’s Road on Sunday afternoon. There wasn’t a cloud on the horizon in any direction and the atmosphere was as laid back as you’d find in a day’s walk.

Organising committee PRO, Pat Hartnett sent the following report:

“Altogether 13 races took place at this the 155th recorded race meeting in the Castleisland area. There were many winners on the day but the big winners were Glebe Lodge who benefited from the Humphrey Murphy Memorial 5k Fun Run on Friday night.

Aquired Brain Injury Ireland benefitted from the race day’s gate takings and presentations will be made to both organisations at a later stage. A contribution will be made to the Castleisland Social Club which is attached to the local day care centre.

Special presentations were also made to the committee’s current joint-presidents:  Paddy Maher, Jim Lordan, Jimmy Kearney and Vincent Murphy.

The committee is grateful to all of the 89  sponsors who supported the event: Maurice Brosnan local cattle dealer who made his lands available for the races; the stewards; the Gardai;  The Red Cross Ambulance Service;  veterinary surgeon; doctor; owners, trainers and jockeys and everyone who contributed in any way to the success of the event.”
