Spokes People take to the Roads for Day Centre

The details of the eighth and annual Castleisland Day Care Centre Cycle were launched at the centre last week.  The 2014 event takes to the local roads on the first Sunday in September and cyclists of all levels of fitness are being invited to take part. It starts, as usual, from the Castleisland Rugby Club with registration at 9am. If, as someone said here recently, cycling is the new golf – then this September’s event should see the numbers of participants well up on previous years.

The event has two options which are:  A 10 mile route around Currow to suit all levels of fitness. Then there’s a 50 mile route which will take in the 10 mile loop and continue to Ballycarthy, Farranfore and Scartaglin before returning to Castleisland.

“The event is not a race – its all about participation and whether you want to round off the cycling season with a challenge or, like many, begin cycling and have a goal to complete before going onto bigger and better events such as the Ring of Kerry then this is your event,” said event ‘spokesman’, John Breen.

The cost is a minimum entry of €20 per bike which can be collected as sponsorship or paid by the participant. All monies collected go straight to the local and worthy day care centre.

Refreshments will be provided on the route and also a big spread as usual will be laid on in the Castleisland Rugby Club afterwards where there will also be entertainment.

“Again this year there will be some spot prizes which can be won by both the cyclists and their sponsors.  So please return the sponsorship cards on the day of the event to be in for these draws.

So, we are looking forward to seeing you on Sunday, September 7th for a 9am registration and we’ll be on the road for 10am,” said John.
