For nothing more than a bit of fun I did a quick vox pop on the predictions of the people of the locality on today’s big All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Semi-final between Kerry and Mayo.
Will the big trophy-starved Mayo side overcome what has been a traditional bridge too far for them ? Will Kerry march on into another busy autumn and a date with either Donegal or Dublin on the third Sunday of September?
Renown GAA experts are dithering, divided and downright reluctant to come down on either side of this particular fence.
We’ll know by 5pm this evening unless the teams wind up deadlocked in a draw.
Our vox pop participants were unanimous in their verdicts and we’ll take them from left:
Nora Fealey: Kerry 2-9 Mayo 1-8.
Peter Carty: Kerry 2-12 Mayo 2-9.
Mary Jones: Kerry 1-9 Mayo 1-8
Tom McCarthy: Kerry 1-13 Mayo 1-10
Con Rocky Roche: Kerry 2-14 Mayo 1-11
Colm Kirwan: Kerry 1-15 Mayo 1-13
That’s a resounding vote of confidence in Eamonn Fitzmaurice’s men as they face the men of the west today at 3.30pm.
Will our participants’ predictions be right on the line or will Mayo leave them hanging out to dry. All will be revealed. Good luck to both Kerry teams today.
