Knocknagoshel Women Support Two Worthy Charities

Cheques with a combined value of just over €1,600 were presented to two worthy charities in Knocknagoshel recently. One of the sums was for €786.00 and it was presented to Pieta House Castleisland from the Knocknagoshel Women’s Group as part of the proceeds of the Carmel Linehan Memorial Walk 2013. Cora O’Brien accepted the donation and thanked the local fundraisers on behalf of Pieta House.

Another cheque of €815.00 was presented to the Kerry Cork Health Link Bus run by Kerry Cancer Support Group as part of the Carmel Linehan Memorial Walk 2014. Seán Prendergast, the CEO of that organisation was there in person to receive the presentation and he also thanked the benefactors.

“Carmel Linehan was a friend and member of the Knocknagoshel Women’s Group, she passed away in 2008. We also remember Michael Lenihan our friend and bus driver who sadly passed away last year.

A fundraiser has held every year in Carmels memory as she was a great fundraiser in the community and it is an appropriate way to remember her,” said the women’s group spokesperson, Catherine Brosnan,

“On Easter Monday each year the Knocknagoshel Women’s Group remember Carmel, Micheal and we will include our good friend and co-worker Donal Curtin who sadly passed away just last month.

Part of the proceeds will go to a charity each year and the remainder goes to help fund the Knocknagoshel Over 55’s Club which takes place each Wednesday and Saturday in Knocknagoshel Community Centre, and Meals on Wheels each Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Anyone who would like to avail of the Meals on Wheels service can call Mary on 087 9740296. New members are always welcome to the club. We’d like to sincerely thank all those who took part in our fundraising events and all those who helped out in any way,” Catherine concluded.
