Excitement is sneaking up to fever pitch at An Riocht Athletic Club and it’s all hands on deck today as the morning’s HercOileán Military Style Challenge comes within touching distance.

The marquee is up and the fences, hurdles and obstacles are being adjusted and William Dennehy has been appointed chief hose-downer at the finishing line.

Entries are streaming in from teams and individuals and all is looking well for Kate McSweeney and her team of organisers in this, their first big event challenge.

The Maine Valley Post has five tickets to give away and they’re going to the following: Melissa O’Callaghan, Joanne Cremins, Bernie Feehan,  Denise Culhane and Lauren Prendiville.

The winners can pick up their tickets from the reception desk at An Riocht AC anytime from now.

It’s going to be an amazing day and spectators can gather by the river in the town park if they want to get up and close to the action tomorrow.

Competitors will be battling against the clock as they struggle to get over, under or through the obstacles and, with the weather softening the ground over the past week, William Dennehy will be a busy hose-man tomorrow. Well done to our winners and we hope they enjoy the day and night. If you’d like to make a weekend of it, the River Island Hotel right here in Castleisland are offering a special rate of €30 pps for anyone who quotes Hercoileán when making the booking. Call them on this number 066-7142555.
