There was good news for An Ríocht AC Athletes in the wake of the Irish Cross Country Championships in Co. Louth at the weekend.

Kate McSweeney reports that two club athletes have been selected on Irish teams to travel to Bulgaria for European championship competitions in a fortnight’s time.

Laura Crowe on Irish team for European Championships

Laura Crowe of An Ríocht AC led the Kerry women’s team to an excellent second place in the National Senior Inter County Cross Country Championships in Dundalk on Sunday.

Laura finished a brilliant 3rd in the 8k event. She was subsequently named on  the Irish team for the European Cross Country Championships in Bulgaria.

Shona Heaslip and Niamh O’Sullivan were also scoring members of the Kerry team. The other team members were:  Maria McCarthy and Catriona Barry, Farranfore Maine Valley AC; Grace Lynch, Iveragh AC,  Ann Maria Costello, Gneevguilla AC;  Karina Teahan, Sneem  and Niamh Clifford, Star of the Laune.

Brendan O’Connor Rewarded for Fine Run 

An Ríocht AC athlete,  Brendan O’Connor was also in fine form when placing an excellent fourth in the junior men’s 6k.

Brendan was rewarded for his fine run by also being selected to represent Ireland at the European Junior Championships to be held in Bulgaria on December 14th. Brendan is a son of Castleisland native and UK based, John W.H. and Helene O’Connor and he signed up the Castleisland club in 2013.
