Community Services Secured with Pobal Funding

North & East Kerry Development has been informed that Pobal will continue to support its four Community Services Programmes in 2015 and 2016.  The four services in question include:  Revamp Furniture Recycling Enterprise based in Castleisland; Older Persons Maintenance Service based in Listowel and surrounding areas; and two Community Halls Projects providing support to community services in Listowel, Castleisland and Dingle.

This will mean that the development group can continue its services to local communities over the next couple of years and retain local employment for approximately 28 people at current levels.

Details on the Services:
Revamp Furniture Recycling Enterprise Programme Aim:   To develop a furniture recycling community business.To provide employment for the Traveller Communty based in Castleisland; To meet household furniture needs of low income families in Kerry;  To reduce the amount of large household waste being disposed of in landfill and provide a recycling alternative.
The service provided:
Meeting the household furniture needs of vulnerable people and low income families; Providing local employment to the Traveller Community; Collection and delivery service throughout Kerry; The Kingdom Revamp Store located in Crageen, Castleisland; New service marketed through existing charity shop structure; Alternative to dumping household furniture.
How to use the service:
The Revamp Store will be open to the public; Referrals are welcomed from all sources;
Type of goods taken in: Small or large household furniture; Old and new; Broken or worn;  No electrical goods

Older Persons Maintenance Service. Programme Aim:
To provide a maintenance and minor repair service to older people in the North Kerry area.
Service Provided: North Kerry Older Persons Services employs eight ‘handy men’ to provide a low cost maintenance and minor repair service in the North Kerry area.
The team of workers are: Based in designated areas of North Kerry. This ensures that all workers are locally known and trusted by the community; Trained in Manual Handling, First Aid, Health & Safety and Chemical & Outdoor Maintenance Training; Fully vetted and background checks are completed; Friendly, trustworthy, reliable and offer a confidential service; Fully Insured;  Informed of other services in the area to signpost clients when necessary
Who is eligible to receive this service?
The service is directed to those who are most in need within the communities like: Older people living alone; Older people living with an older spouse; Older people living in poor housing conditions; Older people with disabilities or in poor-health or Older people living in isolated areas.

Community Halls Project provides six staff across a range of community services including:  Seanchaí Literary Centre and X-istance Youth Café, Listowel;  Castleisland Youth Space and  Castleisland Community Centre and An Mhainistir, An Daingean.
