The college had just organised a hugely successful ‘Open Night’ which drew a great attendance from the town and surrounding parishes earlier that night.
A spokesperson at the college said that while there was no great amount of damage done, the raiders knew exactly what they were after and they knew where to find it.
“There just happened to be a sizable sum of money in the safe from all that was going on here and they got that,” said the spokesperson.
People are being urged to check security camera footage in the vicinity of the college and on the street and in the area from that approximate time.
Members of the community here who may have seen a vehicle or any kind of suspicious activity in the area on Thursday night / Friday morning or who may have any other bit of valuable information are asked to call the local Garda station on 066 71 41204 or the Garda Confidential Line on: 1800 666 111
