The annual Christmas Day Charity Mile took in the grand total of €3,005 from its latest outing on the morning of the great day. It’s an event which has taken a firm hold of the imagination of the population of the area.
For people returning for the Christmas holiday period it presents a great opportunity to meet and great friends and neighbours they may not have met for a while. It’s 10-30am to 12-30pm. timing is also a big hit with participants down through the years since its inception in 1999.
People are encouraged to walk, jog or run. Getting out, making the effort and a donation to the collection box are the vital ingredients of a successful event as far as the organisers are concerned. Founder, Denis Brosnan and barman-gan-equal, Pats Broder were on hand to ensure the traditional hot-drop flowed steadily.
Local charities will benefit from the event and a portion will be donated to GOAL for its overseas commitments. Presentation of cheques will be made to the chosen charities over the coming weeks.
