The RTÉ Radio 1 traditional music programme, The Rolling Wave will feature recordings made at the Johnny O’Leary Memorial Concert during the 2014 Patrick O’Keeffe Traditional Music Festival over the next two Sunday nights. Programme presenter , Peter Browne sent a massage to say that the next two Sunday nights of the programme would be devoted to recordings made in Castleisland during the special concert and that the material to be broadcast sounded great.
Ten years after his passing, Johnny O’Leary was remembered with a Sliabh Luachra Music Special Concert at last October’s 21st annual festival.
Terry Moylan also launched a book on Johnny’s life and music on the occasion at the River Island Hotel. Some of the finest exponents of the music around today took part in that concert.
In the course of the night the award for dedication to the music of Sliabh Luachra was presented by Peter Browne to singer, Jimmy O’Brien of Killarney. The line-up for the Johnny O’Leary Memorial Concert on that Sunday night went as follows.
