Five transition year students from St. Joseph’s Presentation and St. Patrick’s Secondary Schools here in Castleisland have just launched their Schools’ Credit Union branch on with the help of special guest and rugby star, Siobhan Fleming.

The Schools’ Credit Union will operate from 12.35pm to 1pm every Thursday at St Joseph’s Presentation Secondary School and is open to students and staff of both schools.

“We are delighted with the calibre of transition year students who expressed an interest in running this year’s School’s Credit Union. Having completed interviews and in-house training in Tralee Credit Union they have worked very hard setting up the credit union in their school. They did a great job with the launch,” said Tralee Credit Union’s marketing and development officer, Suzanne Ennis.

“We’d like to say a special thank you to Siobhan Fleming for visiting and showing her support and of course a special thank you also to Anette Leen and Tim Long, Transition Year co-ordinators at the schools.  We have encouraged students and staff in the school to support this transition year initiative by opening a credit union account and saving with them every week from now until May. It’s the ideal place to save for a school tour, event or occasion,” said Ms. Ennis.

School Credit Union Transition Year students involved in the setting up of the initiative include: Padraig Broderick, manager; Patrick O’Connor assistant manager; Paddy Flynn, marketing and Eimear Horgan and Jack Daly student services.
