After a hectic day in Tallaght Basketball Aarena on Thursday, the St. Patrick’s Secondary School team booked its place in the All Ireland U16 ‘A’ Basketball final.

The first match of the day was a quarter final against Christian Brothers Secondary School, Cork. This was a battle for the first three quarters of the game with St. Patrick’s a point behind at the end of the second quarter. It was still too close to call after the third quarter with both teams exchanging baskets but in the last quarter the boys from St. Pats found that extra motivation and won 59 to 44.

This win booked the St. Pat’s team a place in the semi- final against Presentation Secondary School, Cork. This was another epic battle with the first three quarters of the game being hard fought and nothing between the teams. But, as in the quarter final, the boys from St. Patrick’s show great determination and hunger to win out on a final score of 69 to 41. This was a team performance with all players making a very valuable contribution.

This was a great day for the team, the school, for coach Denny Porter and teachers, Joanne Casey and Katie O’Connor. The team will now play Summerhill College of Sligo in the All Ireland final on Wednesday February 25th in Tallaght at 3pm. The very best of luck to all involved.
