Team Denjoes American Style 65, NUIG Mystics 57
St. Mary’s/Team Denjoes American Style got back on their winning ways in the first of a gruelling two-game weekend at home in Castleisland Community Centre on Saturday night.
And this morning they hit the road for a game in Dublin today – which is also in the Women’s National League Division 1 campaign.
On Saturday night they encountered and dispatched NUIG – National University of Ireland Galway – with a hard earned, eight point winning margin.
It is a pity that the cracking, all action game was played before one of the smallest home crowds seen at the centre in recent times.
Team Denjoes American Style top scorers on the night were: Lorraine Scanlon 20; Aoife Nolan 18 and Mary Herlihy 9.
NUIG Mystics top scorers: Ailish O’Reilly 14; Nicole Krusen 12 and Marine Airnault 10
The home team members were no sooner off the court that they were on the bus to Dublin where they faced Oblate Dymanos at 1.30pm in Oblate Hall in Inchicore earlier today.
However, the Dublin side proved too strong for the visitors and they led throughout the game which started at 1-30pm. It finished: Team Den Joe’s American Style 65 – Oblate Dymanos 79.
St. Mary’s Basketball Club members announced the sponsorship of their Division 1 National League Ladies team by local business ‘Den Joe’s American Style’ at the end of September 2014.
Previous sponsor, Tom McCarthy’s Central Bar enjoyed huge success with the team during his term as its backer.
The Church Street based ‘American Style’ has long been associated with St. Mary’s having been one of the club’s main sponsors for the 45 year-old Christmas blitz over many of those years.
The team is coached by Cormac O’Donoghue, managed by Bríd Kenny and captained by Eileen O’ Connor with deputy captain, Miriam Leane.
